Pedro Guedes Carvalho, Professor, Portugal
"I would like to see the difference between coaching and the roman concept of pedagogical leading. To me, the difference could be the knowledge the coach should have about the strenghts of the coachee"

  Coaching and Pedagogy
Jan van der Torre, Belgium
"Hi Pedro, I guess from your question that you refer to the concept of a coaching leader. From the perspective of the coachee this is only one of the four coaching fora. Another source of feedback and coaching comes from family and friends, yet another from social netwerks (not just virtual!) and the fourth is the - professional - external coach. Each of these "mirrors" will reflect a biased image and wil help the coachee by offering new views and knowledge based on the apparent need of the coachee. In that sense the question to find the difference you are looking for is almost immaterial. Regs,"

  Establish a Reference Point
Civile, Netherlands
"I agree with Pedro in here. You want to establish a reference point where to start from in order to set the future objectives. I think it should be done in a fashion that is easy to grasp for the 'coachee' as well. You also want to know the characterisics of each member of the team to assess wheater they are compatible or contradictive to one and other."

  Coach or Pedagogy
Pedro Guedes Carvalho, Portugal
"Thanks for the remarks. Anyway I insist, there's a difference between "just guide a person" or take the best skills of a person and "compose them" to fit in the whole organization."

Pedagogy is Structured and Coaching is Prescriptive
Jagdish B Acharya, India
"Pedagogy builds an edifice from knowledge of the past and helps in its furtherance. It is universal in its delivery and not specific to needs of recipient. It covers most of the aspects of education and prepares one for further education on own terms and pace.
Coaching is recipient-specific and purposeful. It has limited objectives and develops the relationship between the giver and taker. The process changes depending on feedback of receiver. In specific situations coaching may appear to deliver fast results. Pedagogy is not result specific and may appear slow."
